Meet Lyndsay Bourdeau…

What do you specialize in, as an SLP?  What are your interests?

As an SLP, I have a keen interest in severe speech disorders including phonological-based speech disorders and speech-motor learning based speech disorders (i.e., Childhood Apraxia of Speech and Dysarthria). My interests also extend to how delays in speech and language impact later literacy development.

Because of my interests, I have specialized training in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of motor-based speech disorders or Childhood Apraxia of Speech and dysarthria.

What is something you are looking forward to, in the next 6 months?

In the next 6 months, I am looking forward to offering the community opportunity for learning. Learning about how speech, language and reading develop.  And learning about how these areas are inter-linked so we can promote the skills of children within our community.

What is your favorite part of being an SLP?

My favourite part of being an SLP is that I get to play with amazing kids all day!

My second favorite part is the connection that I make with the families of those children. It is so rewarding to see a family’s confidence grow, either in targeting their child’s goals or understanding the nature of their child’s delays. Building the capacity of a family whether through direct training/coaching of how to target goals or through education allows them to become better advocates for their child. To be a part of this process is a privilege.

Tell us more about the Speech, Language Literacy Centre…

The Speech, Language & Literacy Centre was created to provide schools, the community and families with a place they could call, convene (when COVID is over!) and rely on, for support in accessing services and education for their student’s or child’s speech, language and/or reading delays/disorders.

At the Speech, Language & Literacy Centre, we base our practices in evidence supported by research. In doing so we can be confident in providing our clients with the highest quality assessment and treatment protocols to ensure the best outcomes for the children we serve.

How can families get in contact with you?
